This blog contains samples of my university work, most specifically my recently completed final year project (Avanto).

Avanto - Cold Water Swimming

Avanto aims to establish a richer connection between the people of brighton and the sea. In contrast to the dominant structure of the original West Pier, which projected across the shoreline, this design aims to connect in a far more personal and interactive way. Avanto brings the sea inshore, encouraging people to appreciate nature on a far more intimate level promoting the physical and psychological benefits associated with cold water swimming.

Hopefully, this video will help explain the activity of cold water swimming, be it on an extreme level.

Responsive Wave-Wave ceiling mechanism for the passage down to the pool.

The wave moves in the direction of the incoming or receding tide, further connecting the structure and its users with the sea.

Note-the tunnel view will frame the west pier…..not the pen holder made of toilet rolls.

(excuse the shoddy late night filming and the loud sniff halfway through.)
